Microsoft  spyware now available as Microsoft Anti  spyware the result of its recent purchase of Giant Company Software

Microsoft Spyware had its beginnings on December 17, 2004, when Microsoft announced the acquisition of an anti-spyware company, Giant Company Software.

The acquisition drew attention for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, Microsoft had made its intensions known that it was going to become a player in the anti spyware market.

Secondly, Giant Company Software, the company Micrsoft purchased, was largely an unknown in the industry.

Microsoft’s entry into the antispyware game could be explained by the fact that it is no secret in the industry that Spyware, Adware, Viruses and Trojans are currently the #1 threat to computer and internet security.

According to a CNN report, over 90% of ALL computers connected to the internet are infected with these Spyware programs. Also, Giant’s AntiSpyware, as their anti-spyware solution is logically named, has been found by some to be far more effective than other industry leaders such as Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Microsoft’s antispyware product is said to have a great user interface, pretty decent spyware removal functionality and has features that allow you to monitor advanced system settings.

As with any product in this field, Microsoft’s antispyware offering has some criticism. One major observation is that the effectiveness of the original product appears to have declined over recent past, definitions may be out of date and customer service is limited to self-service.

Microsoft spyware includes a scheduler, as well as real-time "security agents" which protect against homepage intrusions and violations by hijackers and surreptitious “drive-by” installs. Microsoft tool does a good job of explaining what it can do, has done, or wants to do with spyware infections. The information is clearly presented, with useful levels of “drilldown” options in many situations.
